   But just the other day I was complaining there's no WYSIWYG web editor anymore that should have evolved in the last 10 years to make this even easier on newbies. Now there's nothing but very outdated software

     I remember leading how HTML worked back in middle/high school using the editor that came with Netscape Communicator. There are a lot of services like Square, but they all really suck ass. Drag and drop component design for the Web is either going to be horrifically complicated or horrifically bloated.

     @coolboymew@shitposter.world @kirby@lab.nyanide.com @mischievoustomato@rebased.taihou.website @mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world I remember researching for this sometime ago, I found a kind of working freeware thing that would let you do that, but it's not free. people talk a lot about static site generators like hugo but it's its own rabbithole, you may as well just learn basic website coding instead

     If I was teaching an intro to web dev class, I'd probably start with a static tool (I use Jekyll .. it sucks ass but I started using it yonks ago and can't be bothered to migrate), then move on to jQuery and only then move on to a framework like React/Vue/SolidJS ... not enough people truly understand how all the components fit together.
     
     And you can't just "do it all in static/jquery" for large projects with big teams. As shitty as the new frameworks are, they're big advantage is making it easy for large teams of people to all work on the same codebase without constantly stepping on each other's work.

     but yeah it is a pain that you have to go into vscode or whatever to make a website

     The thing is that I don't want an editor to give me everything for free, but to make it easier on myself. Going into outright coding programs to do this is kinda ridiculous considering what we had in the past

     I mean even if you were using wordpress or a template I wouldn't complain as much but just using chatgpt code randomly is shitty advice.
     
     Most of the zoomers with sites I've seen just mess with HTML on notepad and I assumed it was the case in the old days.
