Gonna try #lemmy or #mbin or whatever the fuck the #reddit diaspora is using these days.
Anyone got a good recommendation for a service or server?

@hyakinthos Thanks for the recs
beehaw is definitely not the place for me. Everything I read gave me weird vibes.
I'm not into Infosec or solarpunk or anarchism, especially not enough to join an server/community based on that.
I settled on MBin via Kbin.Run, though i have the strong feeling that I'm too normie for all the reddit-likes so far
dbzer0 is good. These #threadiverse are also worth a look:
beehaw.org
fedia.io
infosec.pub - infosec focused
slrpnk.net - climate focused
sopuli.xyz
mander.xyz - science focused
links.hackliberty.org - anarchy focused, i think?
AVOID these shitty Cloudflare jails:
lemmy.world
sh.itjust.works
lemm.ee
lemmy.ca
programming.dev
@NaClKnight if your interests align, try mine https://lemmy.dbzer0.com
@hyakinthos What makes those last 5 "shitty cloudfire jails?"
@hyakinthos That black and green text is hard to read but i think i got the gist that "cloudflare is bad."
Thanks for sharing.
Having been on Mbin for a few days now i am more convinced than ever that i don't have a use case for these reddit-alts yet.
The discussions i want to have aren't happening there and the discussions happening there aren't ones i wanna have.
It's the same issue as Mastodon but magnified x5
I'll peek my head in and comment or post i guess but other than that...
@NaClKnight The first 4 are exclusive walled gardens that discriminate against several demographics of people:
Programming.dev uses a whitelist but all five of them effectively feed an oppressive US tech giant.
There’s a practical problem with the 1st four: if you post an image, the image does not get copied to federated nodes. So people excluded by Cloudflare cannot see your image, just the comments around it. It breaks the fedi and goes against fedi principles.
@BiggestBulb Like what?
@NaClKnight just not kbin.run - they have really skeezy stuff in their privacy policy
@BiggestBulb Got it! Thanks.
I made a Kbin.Run account cause Mbin sounds like it has the best future/outlook but now I'm unsure.
Honestly? All of this is enough to just send me back to reddit. The lack of useful/interesting/unique content on the Reddit-likes and morality/personality test of picking an instance are enough to dissuade me rn.
@NaClKnight https://kbin.run/terms
Sorry it was actually their terms of service
