Believe it or not, I do appreciate the advice. I wish it were that easy. Both my wife and my sister-in-law were raised Catholic. My wife turned away from the church, but not her family. Things awkward at times, but we're mostly okay with the little jabs we take every now and then.

@jacklaridian in my experience, I thought my family was not as bad as they are, but they kept choosing partners that were super shitty and it took me awhile to make the connection that they must be shitty too to put up with that. Unfortunately I didn't realize that until after the damage had been done and they had proven themselves shitty on their own merits. Don't be like me, they're telling you who they are.
