   If #Meta decided to charge people residing in the #EuropeanUnion 🇪🇺 for the privilege of using #Instagram, #WhatsApp, #Facebook & #Threads, most users would revolt & learn to do without all of them.

   A few would use Virtual Private Networks (VPN’s), but outside the #Fediverse the social networking space would collapse in #Europe.

   I do not think it will get this far though.

     @Lokjo It always seemed weird to me that Europe did not boast any major social networks. Then again, American social networks usually have a global impact, so maybe it would be better for nations around the world to encourage their own home grown alternatives.

     Nothing wrong with a collapse of social media in europe, it's all corporate and american, they're just messing with europe.

     It would be a great opertunity to get european social media platforms, even just one of them would be great.
