   *looks at change* Why is a 5 ¢ coin bigger than a 10¢ coin, and a 50 ¢ coin bigger than a 1 € coin?

   At least they're different sizes, so you can tell them apart by touch, but why isn't bigger size consistently bigger value?

   Some historical thing where the metals they're made from just were smaller and had to be thicker to reach actual value?

     @uliwitness Hab ich mich auch gefragt, als wir die D-Mark in Ostdeutschland bekommen haben, was ist das für ein quatschiges winziges 50-Pfennig-Stück. Das DDR-Geld war noch Größe sortiert, wie sich das gehört.

     @uliwitness At least within the significant digit group they are sized by value. (5c > 2c > 1c, 50c > 20c > 10c, €2 > €1)
     And I suspect you’re supposed to identify the group via the kind of edge ridges.
