@ncoca I think it is important to get more clarity on any forced labor that's being imposed on Uyghurs, but the Jamestown Foundation is pretty clearly a neoconservative rightwing propaganda outlet with close ties to the Heritage Foundation, the CIA, and the US State Department. Not a source I would place much trust in, especially when discussing China.
You can kind of tell from the way the article is written, where they focus very heavily on how the rewritten guidelines could be used to more effectively identify Uyghur forced labor (a phrase they keep repeating over and over) but they don't seem to actually write much about said forced labor having been uncovered or that there is evidence of it.
In fact, in one paragraph they specifically state that previous investigations were unable to find evidence of forced labor.
I am very concerned about the treatment of Uyghurs by China, but I don't think rightwing propaganda is a good place to learn more about it tbh.
