Oh wow, Amazon has started adding AI-generated review summaries. The results are... not good.

It thinks this disc polisher is an optical drive:
    https://www.amazon.com/SkipDr-Manual-Disc-Repair-System/dp/B0015ACUKC

"Customers are satisfied with the performance of the optical disc drive. They mention that it works well. However, some customers have reported issues with readability, saying that the disc was completely unreadable. Customers also dislike the freezing. Opinions are mixed on quality, value, scratch resistance, ease of use, and appearance."

@DamonWakes Oh yeah, absolutely, garbage in, garbage out, but that's kind of the crux of the problem.

That said, I see a lot of obsession with LLM review aggregation (the Kagi team are also hard for it), but it seems pointless when the option of reading the reviews is right there.

Amazon reviews in particular often have poor relevance, as the review workflow leads many people to believe that they're an appropriate place to complain about packing or delivery errors.

@HauntedOwlbear I wonder how much of this is the usual confident nonsense and how much is due to miscategorisation and totally nonsensical metadata. Summarising reviews actually strikes me as one of the less wildly inappropriate applications of this technology, but it's not surprising that the summary claims the device to be an optical drive when Amazon's slapdash product info seems to suggest that's just what it is.
