   was at an "adult function" and video games came up and it's always so awkward. after this guy went on about Helldivers 2 and Palworld, he asked me: "what do you play?" and i was all, like, "uhh ... hmmm .. ermm..." and he was eyeing me very curiously and then i said: "uh well actually i don't play video games" and made some excuse to leave the area.

     @buru5 @spinning_bird @jake4480 I agree the "Why is very very interesting. I can tell you at length what caused my lifelong relationship to fighting games, how they make me feel, and why i keep playing." Same for whatever else I'm playing. Not into retro games though.

     It's also my experience that a lot of folks either don't do that kind of introspection or aren't willing to share it without that initial surface level connection/relationship

     the thing about helldivers people is they are very interested in the 'what' of Helldivers while I am very interested in the 'why' of "why do you play Helldivers (or any game)" and the "and how does that make you feel" and these conversations are very intimate and I am not inebriated

     @jake4480 @buru5 you don’t have to lead with Phantasy Star Online 😂 for example, the FF7 remakes are something a “modern gamer” will likely know, so it’s a good way to bring the ps1 original into the mix.

     I for one would be delighted to meet someone who’s enthusiastic about Helldivers, even though I haven’t played it myself.

     @jake4480 it's not that i have disdain for people who only do the "mainstream" stuff, i just don't want to have to explain what "Phantasy Star Online" is or whatever i happen to be playing. it also gives off a snobby vibe on my part (which i am totally a snob but i try to avoid unleashing the beast)

     @buru5 😂 I've been in situations like this. It IS weird. Talked to a physical therapist one time during a massage, he's like I only like DOTA and things like that. Blew his mind I could still play Wolf 3D, original Doom, DKC. He said he couldn't do games with graphics like that. Me, I don't wanna play a movie. I don't. I want a GAME.

     @NaClKnight @buru5 @jake4480 Guilty Gear X is on the list of games for the next issues, I'd be interested in reading about your relationship with fighting games.

     It actually makes me feel a bit bad because I can hardly say why I like games so much. Maybe I can say "it's well designed because ..." but that's hardly very personal. 😶

     @NaClKnight @buru5 @jake4480 sorry for the confusion, I’m talking about buru5s, mmh, gaming magazine. If you look at his recent posts you’ll see what I mean.

     If you read some of his articles, the main focus is often on personal experience over details about the specific game, so maybe just playing a little bit of GGX could be fine? Idk buru5 is the boss, but I had the impression it could be a fit. 🤗

     it's a free digital magazine. i write articles for it then will put those articles on the site eventually. i also ask fediverse people if they want to write for it as guests, so it's sort of like a digital collective of authors who take games way too seriously. the best example is the magazine itself, here:

     not sure how it came up on this thread and don't expect anyone to write for it unless they want to. it's a passion project.
