@agates @brianoflondon I don't know if there is a connection between DIDs and webauthn/passkeys. They are different standards.

In Fediverse we are building a key-based identity system, where identities will be represented as DIDs, including did:key DIDs, but not limited to this particular identifier type.

@brianoflondon I have no idea. I see @silverpill talking about DIDs sometimes.

@brianoflondon it's also just a good way to test for yourself, for what it's worth.

@agates do you know much about the did:key identity system?

@brianoflondon if any Linux users have issues, I recommend the bitwarden extension. It's the most reliable ways to use passkeys there so far and will soon bring passkeys to Android.

@agates thanks yes I can see inconsistent handling been browsers and different key types.

But it's pretty good and I'm seeing it on lots more sites so I feel it's heading in the right direction.

For me at this point it's a secondary time saver not primary ID method.

@brianoflondon careful, support across all the platforms isn't 100% yet and you'll might pull your hair out doing support 😉.

(At least the situation is better than when we implemented webauthn at Wayfair)

I'm heading toward "lite accounts" for v4v. What that means is not needing a full Hive account to receive, store and send sats until you want a Hive account (which will cost around $1.50 at the current price).

That's why I'm implementing passkeys: I'll never deal with username passwords.

Did:key is the spec I believe this will use.
