seriously considering manhandling my oldest daughter, throwing her onto the floor in her room, and locking her in there for an hour.

she suffers from ODD. She is a compulsive gainsayer and perpetually verbally abusive to her kin and to me.
Every so often mom will beat her with a household object - frying pan, tennis racket, so forth. but my daughter cannot control herself.
no amount of discussion or argument will fix her. she needs medicine and probably an extensive inpatient stay.
I’m not permitted to discipline her, for reasons, and it really grinds my gears.
tonight she picked a fight with me and physically prevented me from cooking for the other kids.
it’s worse by the day. she needs professional help and I can’t do a thing about it.

oppositional defiant disorder. ODD. It’s a moderately uncommon diagnosis.
It would be unethical for me to actually diagnose my own family member, but I am fairly certain that’s the right diagnosis.

I’m glad he found what works for him.
the best meds I ever found for me were cigarettes and adderal, neither of which I am permitted anymore.

I’m sorry they didn’t work for you.
I’m not a meds doctor. I can only tell you what’s worked for me and for my clients - and what’s not worked. (the same medicine will work for one and not the other.)

nobody even knows how SSRIs work
it’s a very strange mix of art and science

@DMA @s2208 @KittyTantrum back when i macrodosed caffiene i had constant violent, intrusive thoughts, which don't happen on Adderall. maybe the suppression of violent urges is why the money-changers love prescribing it so much

When she was 9, her father went out for a pack of cigarettes and never returned.

This sounds incredibly rough. I wonder when it began to set in and what were the triggers, if any.
I can see how locking her in a room would have destructive ends, but you also need peace for the rest of your family's sake.

i have been fully accepted by the other three. they are thirsty for a dad, and we all get along very well.

Tragic. Step dad role is tough.
