   i swear to god this is one of the most reasonable software takes but y'all will still get discord haters up in the fuckin replies being like "ah no discord is still bad u see cuz the UI/UX isn't actually good plus (insert binglefuck reason here)" like i get it i hate capitalism and corporations too but guess what bumblefuck discord's core features of voice and text chat actually fucking work like they're not constantly shitting over the encryption or failing to connect P2P voice calls like the shit works, if it doesn't for you then oh well but like for the vast majority of people discord fucking Works and it's Fine don't come into my fucking mentions going like "ah well discord still bad" keep that shit to yourself because until open source resolves the issue of its UI/UX being ABSOLUTE DOGSHIT people are going to flock to the fucking thing with actually good UI/UX
   
   and if y'all come in saying "UI/UX" doesn't matter, bitch you are making software for HUMANS to use not fucking robots

     @gamer i just thought it was odd how experimenting with LLMs is a 'grift'.
     
     as for the UX i mostly just shrug and lament that there is a level we can't really go. without central authorities there is no "just toss me a link bro," and we can do very little about that.

     @icedquinn @gamer Discord prevents third party clients and makes its search almost useless. Years worth of community discussion on hundreds, maybe thousands of open source projects and thousands of cultureally significant communities are effectively invisible after it scrolls off screen. It is one component of the downfall of the open Internet. Using it feeds the beast. We are far past the point where "as easy to use as possible" is an excuse to just cede everything to these companies ruining everything.
     
     free software is always at a disadvantage. eating your vegetables isn't as much fun as eating candy. you need to eat your vegetables.
