My bed is finally here but those delivery fuckers just left it in the lobby and pissed off before I could get down there.

It's really heavy and in two big boxes, so I had to do my best to manouever it up on my own in two trips. with my trolley.

The building manager said he'd tried going after them to tell them not to do that, but they were gone before he could catch them.

They have been dreadful from start to finish.

ANYWAY now I'm going to try to put this beast together.

@lookitmychicken Ugh, not cool. Good luck with it, is there anyone who can help you? Beds are hard to do by yourself.

@pixelcats it wasn't hard, just took a bit of strength & stamina. & I don't have much of either, so I had to take it pretty slowly

      Done!

26 slats with 2 screws each, all had to be screwed in individually.

I have never been more thankful that I bought an electric screwdriver last year.

That mattress has expanded to be about 4 or 5 times larger than the box it came in, I reckon.

It has springs underneath & memory foam & supposedly also a cooling gel layer on top (very desirable for my menopausal self).

I'm supposed to let it expand for 72 hours before sleeping on it, but fuck that.

Have been sleeping on a much thinner memory foam mattress on the floor for two weeks. It's pretty good for a temporary mattress, but I'm ready for my Big Girl Mattress now please.

I have a pillow-top thingy that I can put on the mattress also, but that defeats the purpose of the cooling gel layer. So I might try it without the pillow-top first.

(Got the pillow-top for the last place, because it was a furnished apartment & the mattress had experienced many people sleeping in it before me.)

Minor annoyance: the base is exactly the right height to prevent it being pushed back against the wall where the only power outlet in the bedroom is.

But it's okay, I can work with that for now.

The base is just a cheapie, to keep the mattress off the floor & provide a space for under-bed storage boxes.

If I decide to keep it long-term, I might paint or stain it. But it's fine unfinished for now.
