   The side effect of video games is technology preservation.

   Few people—if any—keep their Commodore 64 around for word processing. Don’t get me wrong, I have a soft spot for Easy Writer. But that’s not why the C64 is remembered.

   No, if you still have a C64 around, it’s probably used for Turrican or Lode Runner or Paperboy. And if not those games, some other games.

   This is why, if you want tech to stay around, make it appeal to gamers.

     @atomicpoet Only up to a certain point. In 10-15 years, today's technology will be forgotten because devs keep killing off this generation's games because they're "always online" and don't wanna abide by the "always" part....🤦♂️

     @BeAware Most games don’t require always online functionality. And storefronts like GOG.com don’t even have DRM.

     I own over 6,000 games, from different eras, and few of them require always on functionality.

     @BeAware GOG is less about indie games and more about old games. Hence why it’s called Good Old Games. For this reason, you find lots of old games from Ubisoft, Bethesda, EA, etc.

     That said, the lines between indie and AAA are more blurry on PC. I’ll talk about this in a moment.
