    The Vatican has just reaffirmed its hostility toward so-called "gender ideology." I recently wrote in the magazine of the pope's Jesuit order that this posture is a dangerous failure of imagination: https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2023/11/16/gender-ideology-catholic-246515

      The trouble with ‘gender ideology’
      Can we learn to see gender in its real complexity?

      @ntnsndr It's odd to me that the side which is weirdly zealous about gender being thought of in a very particular way is the one throwing around "gender ideology" as a label.

      @ntnsndr damn surprised they'd accept an article like this in a publication that's indirectly owned by the Vatican

      @hazelnot No, not really. The pope is one bishop among others (with an historically important seat). That office helps serve the purpose of unity. But subsidiarity is also a vitally important part of how the church works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidiarity_(Catholicism)

      @ntnsndr I mean it's the Catholic Church, isn't the whole point of it to be a monolith under the absolute control of the Pope?

      @ntnsndr huh fair

      I live in a majority Orthodox country and here it's basically just, the patriarch is the big boss for all the priests in the country and all the power is centralised in his hands

      He's also ultra-corrupt, was an informer of the Securitate and runs multiple companies through church middlemen (and can and does easily dismiss and/or blacklist anyone who goes against him)
