@realman543 95 was fine I guess. 7 was just vista with a coat of paint. Everyone had mostly decent hardware by 2009 so it was fine to release 7 at that point. If vista was released a bit later, it probably would've been a hit too

Their real mistake was messing with hardware certification — typical Microsoft mind game of the time, but that time it backfired. AFAIR there were two grades: computers that were supposed to run Vista well, and those that barely met the minimum requirements — normal people got confused and couldn't distinguish the two, they bought laptops with a shiny sticker at a price that seemed very attractive only to find out how awfully it runs. And of course they were blaming Vista for it.

@m0xEE @realman543 yeah MS was partly to blame too for that, pressuring oems and moving the goal posts for "runs windows vista" was not a good idea
