      @kaia It's owned / made by war criminals who do illegal things all the time and just recently sold private messages of their users to others as well as backdoored user devices to spy on both them and other companies.

      Doesn't that suffice?

      @kaia The concept of education is the free exchange of knowledge without barriers, free communication. Using software tools like whatsapp are based on the privatization of communication and not only doesn't allow other forms of communication (protocol) to exchange with it's users, but it also betrays the core fundamentals like privacy, freedom of speech and many more on which the our cultures have built themselves on.

      Using whatsapp and any other proprietary software of it's kind is to the detriment of education and any other freedom we can have.

      @kaia@brotka.st they force you to upload your contacts to start conversations within the app (supposedly there's workarounds, but it's sketch that they do this imo). Besides that one thing, it seems fine for now(?) The chats are E2EE

      "This… thing — it looks fscking hideous! I don't even want to have it on my phone!" — that's the line I always use when I want to convince someone to use privacy-respecting software. It works most of the time and when it doesn't — at least you don't get the usual tinfoil hat related responses. Worth a try!
