I think the most kickass feature any IDE could have would be wizard that does "analyze code in these assemblies and change the IDE's code style settings to match it".

For every style option, if there's not a 90% (customizable) consensus in the code, it should ask how to resolve every ambiguity.

Then finally the wizard should ask me if I want to format the rest of the code with these rules and fix inconsistencies.

Probably very hard to implement tho :)

@Nifflas I work in Unreal now, using Rider as the IDE. Unreal has its own set of conventions. Rider has a preset just for Unreal and throws warnings every time I don't follow the convention. I guess that's the next best thing, since I imagine one could supply their own preset.

@jzillw @Nifflas I recently switched to Rider for Unreal development, and I absolutely love it. The difference between it and Visual Studio feels like night and day.

@taylorhadden @Nifflas I didn't know about Rider until I joined my current project, which was just starting at the time, and basically all the programmers said let's work with Rider from day one because it's that much better.

@Nifflas @taylorhadden I didn't have any major issues with VS when I worked in Unity. Never tried it with Unreal, though.

@taylorhadden @jzillw I actually really like Visual Studio for C#. Maybe I've just got so used to it, managed to customize it exactly for my preferences (though this feature would be great when working with someone else's code with conventions different than mine).

I think my main issue with VS is that it's very hard to find settings, and it takes forever to make a color theme since I have to close the settings dialog to see the changes, to then re-find the setting to adjust it further.
