simsa03 (simsa03@gnusocial.jp)'s status on Wednesday, 03-Apr-2024 14:23:44 JST simsa03 In the Netherlands the far-right Geert Wilders failed to form a coalition government and stepped down as candiate for prime minister. In Poland the far-right prime minster Mateusz Morawiecki from the Law and Justice party was defeated in the recent election and Donald Tusk managed to form a coalition government. In Turkey, the AKP party of president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan lost dramatically in the latest municipal elections; the social democratic Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi won in a landslide in all major cities. In Italy, the neo-fascist prime minsiter Giorgia Meloni has been very reluctant to establish far-right policies. In the meantime, protests happen in Hungary against prime minister Viktor Orbán and his cabinet, and Marine Le Pen of the French extreme rigth National Rally refused to meet Alice Weidel, co-chair of the German fascist party AfD about its plans to "deport" migrants and refugees. These are just a few reasons why I am cautiously optimistic that we may already see "Peak Fascism" in Europe, that the times of the autocrats may come to an end, and that their power is waning not only in Europe but in various parts of the world. Quite contrary to the general opinion that autocracies and far-right populism are on the rise. But it's merely a gut feeling, but one that gives me confidence. - tinydoctor likes this.

simsa03 (simsa03@gnusocial.jp)'s status on Thursday, 04-Apr-2024 22:21:44 JST simsa03 I'm most probably not but it occurred to me that these and other recent developments and events, although reported, have been strangely absent in the public comments. And I find "Peak Fascism" so utterly absurd but joyously optimistic that I couldn't refuse to fall for my mind's bait. tinydoctor likes this.
