Thomas 🔭✨ (thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io)'s status on Tuesday, 02-Apr-2024 11:08:52 JST Thomas 🔭✨ @NoWarButMyWar the gold plating is great for analog connectors, reduces corrosion by oxidation, which is an actual thing on these cards and connectors
That doesn’t mean it sounds better, but it does mean fewer issues over time.

Thomas 🔭✨ (thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io)'s status on Tuesday, 02-Apr-2024 11:13:03 JST Thomas 🔭✨ @NoWarButMyWar fwiw the AWE gold is also nice because it has proper stereo jacks and all-in-all nice components so there’s less noise. Def meant to be connected to high-quality amp and speakers

Scott (nowarbutmywar@jawns.club)'s status on Tuesday, 02-Apr-2024 11:13:04 JST Scott @thomasfuchs Well TIL, thanks! I really thought it was marketing drivel. Now gold plated HDMI I still don't buy into. I wanted a sound blaster audigy card so bad back in the day, but could never justify it to myself for computer speakers (and I was broke when they were all the rage of course).

Scott (nowarbutmywar@jawns.club)'s status on Tuesday, 02-Apr-2024 11:20:21 JST Scott @thomasfuchs Ohh yeah, 20bit DAC and SPDIF connections! I still want one lol. Kinda want a retro PC tbh, something with an AGP slot for the graphics card and a soundblaster running anything from Win 98 through XP would be amazing just for nostalgia sake.
