   Ugh, github now doesn't even show the readme file for repos anymore unless you run proprietary software or do a clone.

     @jihadjimmy I believe github's servers are still running git and `git clone` therefore works without utilizing JavaScript.
     
     Some proprietary JavaScript could possibly be running on github's end, but that's github's loss and not yours.
     
     Thinking about it, all developers with a github account should be branded as at risk for backdooring software with proprietary malware (as it happens all the time on github, but I haven't heard a single case of malware addition being intentionally carried out on freedom-respecting forges).

     Doesn't git need to run server side js to be able to fetch repos from Github?

     @dragestil github likes doing X/Y testing, where they enable a antifeature to certain country IP ranges and see if they get too much backlash before rolling it out worldwide.
