@sim @augustus Brutalist architecture is at least functional, and there is some appeal to many brutalist structures despite the horrible aesthetics of the materials used. I do appreciate the utilitarian simplicity of them when they're not trying to be modern art.

@Ricotta @sim may I ask if you are a protestant by any chance, or if you take no position on these matters

@augustus @sim @Ricotta I was about to say autistic, but some kind of heretic (protestant) is also a plausible explanation :P
all of history until like 5 minutes ago, all over the planet everything was decorated, painted, sculpted in some way, then a bunch of autistic cultists somehow took over the architecture schools and inflicted ugliness and misery on everyone (high modernism did more evil than ugly buildings and lifeless depressing plazas, but they're the most visible traces of it)

@augustus @sim I oppose Abrahamism in all of its forms, although I can appreciate some Christian architecture. The Mormon tabernacles I can see from I-15 look nice from a distance, and I've seen some Orthodox churches that looked decent.
Strip mall and shotgun shack Protestantism is just tacky though.
