@Edent FYI, the formula on that page is unreadable in dark mode.
@Edent I disagree with the commenter there regarding diversity/MIMO FWIW. The antennas need to be oriented in parallel to cover the same area as much as possible.
In the extreme case, connecting multiple directional antennas pointed in completely different directions will have... problems.
That said... I'm not 100% sure I'm correct. This is something I learned working at a WISP 20 years ago, and I don't want to spend the time sourcing a citation for this.
@ryanc Interesting. My WiFi unit is in the middle of our 3 floor house.
So I have half the antennae pointing up and the other half perpendicular to them. In the vague hope the vertical ones will cover the middle floor and the horizontal ones will send the signal upstairs & downstairs.
It *seems* to work - but I've not done any serious testing.
@Edent Are you aware of antenna polarization?
@ryanc I am blissfully ignorant of such matters!
@Edent You know how polarized 3d glasses work? All antennas are like that, both for sending and receiving.
@Edent Mostly, things work despite the mistakes people make deploying WiFi, but at my house, I'm putting in six access points... because there is no "overkill", only "transmit" and "receive".
@ryanc ahhhh. That makes sense. Time for me to do some digging.
