   So I'm trying to install a piece of software on Linux, and I run a "./launch_installer.sh", and immediately it prints a message suggesting it is unpacking a JRE so it can run the *installer* inside the JRE, and I wonder if I am going to a dark place here

   NOTE TO ZOOMERS: That's Java Runtime Environment not the other thing. "Java" is a programming language people used in the 1800s, when programming meant making punchcards for Jacquard looms

     Continuing with the "cursed" "haunted" theme, I installed this closed source program on Linux, and it failed to boot because it shipped its own libstdc++.so.6 inside its install dir and it conflicted with my local copy of something called "libicuuc" (which sounds like a European liquor that costs over $200 a bottle) I deleted their libstdc++.so.6 forcing it to fall back to the system one and the program successfully launched

     That's before we even get to this thing, which I'm gonna have to install next, feels like it more fits the name Daemon than any other piece of software I have ever installed. Like God just the name is cursed. I want to be installing it into a Containing Pentacle of Docker to protect the rest of my software from it or something

     Remember everyone, when dealing with daemons, it's --deosil for summoning and --widdershins for banishing. I do not remember the difference between a command invocation and a command evocation but it's probably in one of the manpages

     @mcc Yeah, that makes sense. The cursed world of setting Makevars to specify which version of things on the system to use has harmed my sanity a few times 😅
