   Nintendo DMCA'd the biggest site for pokemon fangames, Relic Castle, earlier today. It hosted countless fangames, as well as hundreds of fan-made resource packs for fangame development, tutorials and guides to help new devs, and hosted biannual pokemon game jams. Apparently, they contacted the site's hosts directly, resulting in the site being immediately shut down with no warning, giving none of the site's users a chance to back up anything. This is the greatest blow the pokemon fangame community has ever received - Relic Castle was the #1 biggest hub of fangame development on the entire Internet, and now it, and all of the resources hosted on it, are gone. Not only were countless fangames lost, but this will severely hinder the development of other fangames in the future, especially newer devs.

     @Rob @Alex i think the first time you start doing takedowns of fan content all your fans should leave you forever :blobcatdunno: i don't get why nintendo keeps being forgiven.
     
     this is the behavior that ensured games like GURPS were relegated to the trash bin. steve jackson sent lawyers after people who made fan tools, so everyone stopped doing it, and the game died.

     @icedquinn@blob.cat @Alex@boymilk.cafe As much as I believe in fan games, Nintendo sadly has the trademark and copyright protection legally for their franchises.
     
     Advice I would offer for fan game makers is to make games that are like Pokemon, but aren't using the trademarks and copyrighted characters.
     
     OR another thing you could do is go for creative Commons web comics like Pepper and Carrot and make fan games for free and legally with the creative Commons licencing.
