There are so many different audiences who love different things, and for sure there are a lot of highly kudosed fics that I don't see the appeal of at all.
It can be a challenge when I'm getting into a new fandom & trying to find good stuff to read solely through sorting by kudos.
When I've been in a fandom for a while, I find the writers & readers whose tastes match mine, and mostly ignore kudos numbers.
In my most recently adopted fandom, I'm reading a lot of, uh.

@Satsuma @lookitmychicken There are some very well kudosed fics out there where I just find the prose unbearable, so clearly taste is very subjective!
