     Where does everyone get the idea it's some socialism paradise. Earth, literally earth is the only planet shown to have met ALL basic needs. Housing, food, work, etc they still get paid. Kirk talks about credits all the time. They had to have money to buy things from other species. You joined starfleet to explore and fight.
