"Trump cancelled a rally in Arizona because his campaign was too broke"
Okay, maybe I take back the part about not seeing how suing the fake rich guy was necessarily something I cared about.
This? This is exciting.

@AnarchoNinaWrites I have a theory that politicians are scared of hostile money.
And there are two ways to address hostile money in the pig empire :
1. Acquiescence, so the money is no longer hostile, or
2. Remove the money, so the hostility can be addressed via state monopolised violence as is customary with poorer people.
But neoliberals and conservatives are too scared to go the second when it comes to obscenely rich entities.
@julieofthespirits @waitworry In this case, what I think really matters here is that Trump's legal bills, fines and judgements against him, appear to be bankrupting his CAMPAIGN.
I honestly don't care that libs are gleefully about him being broke, it's even a bit distasteful to me. But if he doesn't have the money to "do fascism" (and that's what a Trump rally is) then I think I'm coming around on this subject...
@waitworry @AnarchoNinaWrites I mean most wealthy people don't actually have that much liquidity either, a lot of times when they end up in financial trouble it's something they could've paid off if their net worth was their bank balance, but it never is
@AnarchoNinaWrites I've heard a lot of people say that Trump is not really as uber wealthy as he lets on and I guess maybe it's true
@waitworry I... absolutely cannot believe the Saudi's haven't bailed him out here; maybe him and Jared have run out of things to sell to them.
@AnarchoNinaWrites @waitworry Engoron expanded the role of the Trump Org steward to investigating the provenance of any inbound money intended to cover bail.
@lkngrrr @waitworry So, just to make sure I understand what you're saying here - the judge has the steward, specifically watching for dirty money, which, if accepted, would likely produce consequences for Trump in terms of his political activities - yes?
@AnarchoNinaWrites @waitworry That’s my understanding.
Though I am pessimistic whether that turd accepting Russian or Saudi money would impact his standing with his followers in any way.
@lkngrrr @waitworry Indeed, but I was thinking of legal consequences. Foreign governments CAN in fact buy our politicians, but they have to go about it in a certain way - which is why the Clinton foundation was set up the way it was, and why Trump's favorite form of bribery comes through encouraging foreign actors to spend or give money to his charities and businesses. He doesn't HAVE charities anymore, so exposing that his bail bond money came from the KSA, might sink his whole campaign.
@lkngrrr @waitworry And it would of course be much harder to HIDE that, if a former federal judge were literally assigned to watch where his incoming money came from.
In other words, it's entirely possible he CAN'T take money from the Saudis (or anyone else) for this purpose, without opening himself up to an entirely new prosecution and potential disqualification - legally. Regardless of what his fascist base thinks about it.
@AnarchoNinaWrites @julieofthespirits @waitworry
But, wayament....wasn't there an announcement today that Trumpster, by clinching the GOP nomination, now has full access to laundering RNC funds to his campaign, including any RNC funds from anyone who might not want to directly fund his campaign? I mean, his being "dead broke" isn't necessarily going to torpedo his campaign, especially with the 5th Appellate Circuit and the wingnut majority of the SCOTUS running interference for him, amirite??
Naaah, not asking you to go all Carmac at all.
Just putting in something that has been whacking my brain for a while. So interesting how Trumpster can game the system and still mount a serious campaign and rake in the cash even as he screams about being so broke he can't pay his creditors.
@AnthonyJK I mean I can't really predict the future, which is what you seem to be asking me to do here. All I know is that he was too broke to do a rally in Arizona, which is one less fascist rally. Trump is openly telling large dollar donors that he's going to pay his legal fees out of their donations. But again, he was apparently too broke to stage a rally in Arizona quite recently.
After that, I couldn't tell you how this story will end.
@AnthonyJK I know for certain, for example, that Prince Bonesaw is not donating to the RNC; that's illegal. But the Saudis COULD give that money to American organizations NOT covered under campaign finance law, at which point those orgs could donate to the RNC. That would probably still be illegal, but I doubt you'd ever prove it in court.
In the meantime tho, he doesn't have the cash on hand to either pay his bail bond, or hold a rally in Arizona.
@AnthonyJK I feel like, one way or another, he'll get the money and run as normal - at least as normal as an incoherent fascist can. But then again, I figured he'd get the money to pay his bond in New York too; so far? No dice apparently.
@AnarchoNinaWrites @AnthonyJK Bonus points, of course, for Bonesaw, or whomever else really, doing direct business with various companies and those companies then lobbying politicians on their behalf.
