@jrballesteros05@social.linux.pizza Yeah, well, most GNU/Linux distros that uphold some sort of standard of free software like Debian, Fedora or Gentoo will remove Redis now.

@SuperDicq Good strategy, I self myself as "open source" and as soon as I start earning more money I closed it using a shitty license but I still self myself as "open source" friendly.

@icedquinn@blob.cat The license crap just got released a few hours ago.

We will now enter the fork rush period of the process, where people are now rushing to create the first Redis fork. This process will take a few weeks and usually only one of the forks will survive and that will be the one that will be added to most distro repositories.

I can almost make a nature documentary of this type of stuff, I've seen it too many times.

@pebbles@otter.cx I'm personally not into it but I know a lot of people who work in infra and they like Terraform, they are all using OpenTofu now.

As a webdeveloper I have used Vagrant a lot in the past to make reproducable development environments using LXC. This was before Docker existed which is what I use now.

I also used Elasticsearch a lot during a period when I mainly did Magento. Nowadays Magento has moved away from Elasticsearch and has their own custom search engine instead, probably due to Elastic being no longer free software.

I gotta admit I've never used MongoDB because whenever I needed a no-sql data solution I would dump just all my data into Postgres or MariaDB using a JSON column lmao

But yeah I will miss Redis because I have build a lot of webapplications that uses Redis for caching in the past. I hope a good fork will take its place without me having to rewrite a bunch of stuff.

@SuperDicq fair haha, I am mostly thinking about mongo because I have both had to work with very badly made mongo databases and had to convince a team to stay away from it due to licensing issues (they didn't realize they would have to open source their entire codebase).

Mongo is one of those things that can be... ok if you use it right but very easy to use badly--which a LOT of people do.
