@star @ryanc It's likely to mainly affect dual citizens who want to update their UK records after changing their documented gender in the other country they are a citizen of. It could also affect someone who has lived in the UK before, left, changed their documented gender and then came back
It's right on the gross intersection between "we don't care that it will affect very few people BC it's about optics, not effectiveness" and "we also don't care that the tiny minority will be REALLY HARMED"

@CaptainJanegay @star The law is about as clear as mud on exactly who, other than British born British citizens, actually needs a GRC, or how to even establish "legal gender" for anyone who doesn't have a UK birth certificate.

@CaptainJanegay @star I've been told my birth certificate is irrelevant and I need a GRC for some things, though nobody has been able to cite a legal basis for determining my gender.

@ryanc @star I'm also not sure what the effect would be for anyone who doesn't already have a UK birth certificate, though I fear it's groundwork for a plan to start requiring a GRC before people can change their passport or driving license
