Just a short list of instances I've personally tried and would recommend to new users:
    + Chill community
+ Open federation (If proficient at self-moderation)
+ Admin is fun to talk to
    - Akkoma is a bit iffy
(Note: I would not use its sister instance, https://minidisc.tokyo, however, but only because it uses the horribly glitchy Foundkey)
    + Queer-inclusive and welcoming community
+ Fairly open federation (If proficient at self-moderation)
    + Admin is chill
+ Uses the featureful and fun Sharkey
    - https://wetdry.world
+ Vibrant, inclusive, and fun community
+ Admins could make up for mistakes they've made
+ Involved moderation (If not a fan of self-moderation)
+ Uses the fun, even if a bit iffy, Chuckya
    - Still based on Mastodon

@radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top I am actually the only active user of minidisk.tokyo, everyone else just leaves after a week because the software sucks. 😎

@radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top Honestly that's fine because this instance would probably just crash and die if more than 3 people tried to use it at the same time.

@radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top Oh yeah I'm definitely planning to move it to one of the endless Misskey forks that are at least more maintained than FoundKey is.

I just need to find the time and energy to do it. At this point I'm just running FoundKey like a beater car that you know you're not gonna fix when it breaks it down but you're just driving it anyway just to see how long it will still last.

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo I hope that instance could recover, though. It only needs to migrate to new Misskey forks (most notably Sharkey), and you're a solid admin. :neofox_hug:

It's okay if something else needs to be done, though.

@Haijo7@snac.haijo.eu @radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top Yes but in theory this is going to involve 5 hours of fucking around with migration files back and forth as I know from experience (I originally moved from Misskey).

foundkey is a misskey fork right? shouldn't the database be compatible with one of its other forks?

@Kaitsusen@dvd.chat @radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top True but that was back when the software didn't start rotting yet.

Also, funny to see you on a rival instance that uses a optical media format as a domain name.

@Haijo7@snac.haijo.eu @radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top Moving from a Misskey fork to another Misskey fork means you have to move migrate your database all the way back to the last common version of Misskey and then migrate into the new branch that is the fork.

I CAN SEE NO WAY OF THIS EVER GOING WRONG, LOSING DATA OR BEING OVERALL REALLY FRUSTRATING WHATSOEVER.

@Kaitsusen@dvd.chat @radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top Not really. MiniDiscs are mainly for audio, DVDs are mainly for video.

@SuperDicq @radmin @Kaitsusen there were data minidiscs but literally almost no one used them.

@Moon@shitposter.club @radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top @Kaitsusen@dvd.chat That's why I'm saying mainly. You could also use DVDs for data.

@SuperDicq @radmin @Kaitsusen data minidiscs were actually a different product lol you could not use data minidiscs for audio and you could not use the audio ones for data.

@Moon@shitposter.club @radmin@limepeeps.perchinup.top @Kaitsusen@dvd.chat Well technically you can use data minidiscs for audio but it just wouldn't work in the average minidisc player.
