      @NeonPurpleStar no, in the sense that the system will continue functioning. maybe, in the sense that you might or might not need to in order to be running the updated code (and you might or might not care about that)

      best practice would be to reboot if it's reasonably easy to do so

      @NeonPurpleStar@outerheaven.club Unless the kernel update fixes some critical issue that you need to have fixed I wouldn't reboot

      @NeonPurpleStar To run an updated version of the kernel, Linux, a reboot is required unless you have live patching compiled in or enabled.

      You can just update and keep running the old version until you happen to reboot mind you.


      All other (decent) software of the systemd/Linux OS can be updated without a reboot (all GNU software for example can be updated in place without a reboot required).
