But on a serious note, the #TikTokBan will literally make many thousand people lose their livelihoods. Not that it is important or anything right?

Have a big feeling that TikTok would rather just pack up and leave than sell, so many jobs will be on the line. Agencies will also lose major contracts. A domino effect. -

If it is indeed for privacy reasons, the same should be done to FB and X etc. Also the demand and forceful move to grab TikTok the co will ensure a big economic impact. It will cause other countries to think twice before investing in the US just because it is foreign owned.
This is a bad move also for the land of free speech - it shows that the US is no longer that.

Philip Mallegol-Hansen (philip@mastodon.mallegolhansen.com)'s status on Friday, 15-Mar-2024 06:14:47 JST Philip Mallegol-Hansen @liztai I’m definitely not arguing that a ban is the right move. But simultaneously: Job loss cannot itself be a reason not to do something.
If we stop mining coal, miners might be out of a job. But the preservation of those jobs is not worth the continued destruction of the climate.
