   First time trying to use my electronic suica since my old phone died and I got a new one. Apparently, you can't transfer the suica to a new phone without the old phone so I effectively just lost whatever money I had on it? What the fuck.
   But maybe the worst part is I'm trying to make a new one on my new phone and it sends you an auth code, which DOESN'T WORK. I tried it twice with two different codes and it just doesn't work.

     After my phone went to a watery grave in the Edo River, I was able to get the money back that was on my Suica…it messed up several times until I did the exactly right arcane incantation to get it to work

     (This was on iPhone with Suica app)

     @tokyobybike @jezebelkat @jamesrg @glen_malley I have physical cards but I always forget one in a different purse so Tomo convinced me to get it on my phone. Gonna dig through my old bags to find one and just use that from now on. Hopefully my manaca, Nagoya represent ✊️

     I still use a physical Pasmo.

     I also have a physical Oyster card for London that never gets used for obvious reasons.

     @jezebelkat @jamesrg @glen_malley @Dana One of my favourite pastimes is watching people turn themselves into pretzels to touch their Apple watches to the card readers. Comedy gold.

     I wonder how long until the railway companies bend to the will of the watch people and redesign their gates? I'm hoping never (or until I get a smart watch, whichever comes first!)

     nope, physical card haver here

     the UK equivalent just allows you to have an online page to manage your physical card's finances and... why is that so hard?
