   oh did Andrea long chu write another newpaper article,

   is it another ivory tower philosophical wank sesh that only deals in ethereal thought exercises that rich trans people in specific tiny knit groups in the US who can afford to pay for all their surgeries and healthcare would ever consider relevant while undermining the scientific consensus components to trans health that all other trans people globally rely on in order to have any access to hrt or surgery?

   The New York Times regularly runs stories playing up the perils of youth gender medicine ... The public increasingly believes that what the kids call gender is really just trouble: depression, anxiety, autism, family dysfunction, peer pressure, or social media, any of which — not to mention the universal awkwardness of puberty itself — are better explanations for why a child might question their identity.

   yeah Andrea, who could possibly have knowingly contributed to the NYT's anti-trans motivations by writing them a depressive self destructive philosophy article against the need for a trans medical system in order to shill your own book.

     so many paragraphs and all i was hoping was just one at the end that reinserts the fricking pin. just one, one that says "of course, what i have said before was only to allow us to consider this on purely moral and ethical standing and there actually is robust scientific medical consensus towards the need for access to medical transition for all trans people bla bla bla"

     because i regret to inform you, parents are not looking for an article on Judith Butlers latest book and what it can teach us on why we should allow trans kids to have trans surgery just because its a nice thing to do. Philosophy has never once overcome emotion.

     but no, in order to wax lyrical about fucking nothing for another.. jesus.. 32 paragraphs, the scientific merits of transgender healthcare has to be made out to be "a thin peg" that is crumbling and emaciated, about to break under the weight of trans people coming out hanging their coat on it.

     No facts or research on what that "thin peg" of gender identity is now considered to be? that its now accepted by the medical community to be biological and innate?

     we had one of the leading medical experts of trans health, Dr. Joshua Safer, who has spearheaded the robustness of gender identity as innate and therefore there is no danger in allowing trans kids to experiment with gender expression because you scientifically cant trans a cis kid, on The Trouble With Jon Stewart round table session on Transgender Kids and he gets maybe one or two lines of air time where he self effaces with a joke about the fact that the trans medical establishment absolutely is not this whacky overly progressive machine and is never given the mic again to make a crucial point.

     we have the APA releasing a huge statement decrying that anti-trans conspiracy pseudomedicine spreads like wildfire in the press and no one devotes any time or column space to the actual provable medical facts about WHY things such as affirming care is essential for trans people

     and heres 35 paragraphs in the NYMag, 35 paragraphs of chance to finally to put across even a tiny bit of that scientific fact.

     Nothing.

     @siege so what's Andrea Long Chu's angle exactly? What i recall reading from her is too sincere to be straight anti trans rhetoric and too academic to advocate in favor of trans people

     @janegayclerk for the love of academia she will sell us all out and her willingness to do so means she invariably gets these huge articles to prance around in like feminist philosophy is going to make any difference to trans people fleeing states

     @amberage i think that was specifically a british trans woman but blanking on her name right now and internet not helping; that was more a sad piece about how its taboo to say but not everyone is happy with the result of bottom surgery and she was talking about her own result and how divorced she feels from it.

     Definitely a "this seems to be an attempt as self destruction" article in so far as maybe this isnt good for to put out there in press but it wasnt self serving just seemed from a place of deep pain and saddening.

     Long Chu put out My Vagina Wont Make Me Happy: It Shouldnt Have To, which much in the same vein as this new one, was a large nyt piece when the NYT was known to already be very anti-trans, just prior to her surgery on how we should be getting rid of the trans medical system entirely and that trans people should just be given hormones / surgery just because they want them, rather than the "narrative" that it improves their lives. “surgery’s only prerequisite should be a simple demonstration of want.” And then the anti-trans groups and the NYT itself took that and ran with it as straight from the horses mouth that trans surgeries are useless and not about healing. And its been echoed around the world to demonstrate why healthcare systems shouldnt be funding it.
