@icedquinn@mr64bit I was merely reminded of Star Field because of the similar style, although there are differences. Star Field is "neo retro", while Star Citizen goes all in on the "futuristic sci-fi".
And despite not liking Bethesda's RPG's (except Fallout 3 and New Vegas), I am cautiously optimistic regarding Star Field. From what I understand, it became a high priority for Microsoft and they pushed the release 2 years back to polish it. But who knows, maybe I'm being fooled by Todd as well.
@mr64bit@okabe_rintarou i don't really consider them comparable because one is an MMO with a promised local server mode they will never make good on, and the other is a single player game.
i don't expect bugs to be the main enemy. usually bethsoft games work on my computers pretty well. i do expect the story to be complete ass garbage because that's the kind of product todd spent the past ten years shipping.
@okabe_rintarou I agree it can feel a bit like it's scripted, but I think it's just a group of friends who enjoy roll playing in-game. You can see the full stream from one of them.
> Starfield
I can't imagine it'll be in a much better state at release, being a Bethesda game. At least Star Citizen states up front that it's in alpha.
> How long is Star Citizen in development again? And when will it release?
This is the argument I don't understand. Would make sense if you paid for a ship and just had to wait an indeterminate amount of time until the dev declared it "done" before you could play at all, but that's not the case. I don't see how in principle it's different from any other steam greenlight/kickstarter game, just at a different scale.
@mr64bit@icedquinn I only skipped through the video, but I have very mixed feelings about it.
Some aspects are really nice looking and polished, but it still looks janky overall. And the video itself reminded me of those scripted Ubisoft gameplay presentation videos, specifically for Ghost Recon Wildlands.
But having seen Star Citizen so many years later for the first time, I wonder how it will compare in its current state to Star Citizen, which comes out in a month. I was reminded of it a lot, graphically and regarding the graphic detail, as I watched the Starfield Direct for it a month or so ago.
How long is Star Citizen in development again? And when will it release?
I never really followed it too much and was never on either side on the fence about it, but I never liked the fact that they sold ships for thousands and ten-thousands of dollars.
@okabe_rintarou@mr64bit yeah. it.. was really weird how everyone loved it until the paint fell off and then people realized they were scammed.
I had that moment with Skyrim where I realized all of the gameplay was just pushing a button in a dungeon. Some others were lucky enough not to realize that I til some thousand hours in.
I think if they fired pagliarilo they could stand a chance but they won't and he's honestly dragging the studio down with crap writing.
