   @Forestofglory yeah I like arranged marriage as a fic trope because we as readers generally know that the relationship will have some kind of dynamic that we want to read about.

   Unhappy arranged marriage, not so great. Unless part of the plot is that the unhappily married characters get to find some kind of fulfillment elsewhere.

   (Personally I don't read unhappy ending fics, but I guess people who read unhappy endings might also like unhappy arranged marriages??)

     Enjoying everyone's thoughts on arranged marriage in fic in response to fandom chats. I don't have a lot to add. It's a thing that I enjoy in fic and think is not great in real life

     (I did some reading recently about historical diplomatic marriages between steppe people and various Chinese empires and those people where not having a good time!)
