in the Judge Dredd world, their name is printed across the badge.
But from a practical design aspect what the crap, what happens if someones name is more than like 7 letters long, do you know how small text has to get to fit more than 8 letters onto a badge in a single line and it have to be engraved in metal?
Is there a bureau of ultra thin typography at the Mega-City One precinct??

@siege Having just watched the 2014 Dredd, we saw an example of that with ANDERSON. Couldn't make it out most of the time, but DREDD was quite visible as you'd expect.
