    Nice piece, it's a difficult balance for scientists we are supposed to write impersonally, but does language we employ blunt message?

      The way we talk about the natural world can shape our relationship to it. Should we be paying more attention to the language we use to describe it?

      @Ruth_Mottram @rewildingmag I’ve stopped writing impersonally in my papers. It’s not necessary, and the old papers didn’t do that either (case in point: Heisenberg’s paper is surprisingly readable!). Seems like somewhere along the line, someone came up with that “rule” and made scientists believe it, but it distances us from normal people unnecessarily.

      @doc @Ruth_Mottram @rewildingmag very good point!
      I tend to use a mix of both. Present the setup and data in the passive voice and the discussion in the active voice as the interpretation is a lot more related to the question we had set to answer and the ideas we have around a topic.
      (I also know that how we preserve data is subjective, but we do our best so that it's not too much so)
