     @datarama I think this a byproduct of the collective mania of the California health food crowd. One of the weirdest things about that place is that basically any drink and most foods can't just "taste good" or anything as pedestrian as that, they also need to be some sort of magic potion.

     Everything is cleansing, envigorating, vitamin folic infused rejuvenating nutritional energizing whatever but everybody acts happy, is sad and drives everywhere so there's weird nutrient paste in everything.

     My favorite vegetable fact is that before people decided Kale was a superfood, the world's largest purchaser of Kale was Pizza Hut. They didn't serve it on anything; used it to decorate their salad bars. It went from being a thing you only used to decorate other more important foods to being a superfood, like some sort of green, leafy disney princess, and now everybody is trying to dethrone it and apparently failing.

     Somehow Kale ended up with a Shakespearean narrative arc and nobody noticed.

     @mhoye I live in a country where kale has the status of "the thing your grandparents ate when they couldn't get anything better", the meme food kids hate being told to eat, and *the* staple green in pretty much all the dullest traditional dishes, in a region that has notoriously dull culinary traditions. The local name for the stuff literally translates to "green cabbage". Watching the rest of the world go nuts for it was pretty surreal.
