   Literally, fascism isn't really a fully-fleshed out ideology and it doesn't happen on its own. Without wealthy/powerful backers, a bunch of parking lot racists are precisely that - violent losers are dangerous to your person, but not to a whole society. Fascism is a tool, used to maintain power for a ruling class that can no longer do so with the traditional levers of a "liberal democracy." So what changed? Simple, most of us know the planet is boiling because capitalism and we're all wormfood.

     At some point, ppl will say "yeah I'm not going quietly into that good night" and so long as you have the ability to affect change with your democratic rights, they represent an EXISTENTIAL threat to the wealthy ruling classes. They know you won't to AGREE to literally die so they can keep extracting wealth for perhaps 3 more generations. So you mustn't be allowed to have a choice; fascism accomplishes that. There is no long term - ppl funding fascism now will be dead by then so they don't care

     And you can say "nobody thinks like that" but I will argue that this is literally the only way capitalists have ever thought, and the prioritization of short term profits for the few, regardless of the long term implications and how much it costs the many (in toil, suffering, blood and death, typically) is readily apparent in every single aspect of society around you right now. Why are we burning oil? Why are we pretending Covid isn't real? EVERYTHING is about profit RIGHT now & fuck the rabble

     @AnarchoNinaWrites I can conceive of worse possibilities. I feel like everyone dying for stupid reasons is preferable to life continuing indefinitely under a system of hierarchical cannibalism or whatever the existing order transposed to fewer resources would look like.

     @Alephwyr yeah not here for the nihilism and you're talking about 8B people here; perhaps they should get a choice? Also, I'm just going to go out on a limb and suggest there are more choices on offer than "we all die" and "a boot stamping the face of humanity forever" but YMMV.

     @AnarchoNinaWrites I mean my hope is placed in trying to subvert AI somehow, assuming AI gets good instead of continuing to be trash. I'm sorry for being a downer, my point is just that there's more at stake than death.
