   I know there are many remarkable branches out there so I can't speak for fellow workers elsewhere, but from where I am, the Industrial Workers of the World - yes, the "anarchist" IWW itself - has largely replicated the old trade union cultures of toxic masculinity, transphobia, and also Covid denialism. Please, comrades in the labour movement, don't ever let your guard down, because if we are not steadfast in our opposition to bigotry, if we are not assertive and even aggressive in our defence of the disadvantaged and marginalised, and if we are not resistant to reductive class politics, trust me: this shit seeps in and creeps in everywhere, including the last places you'd expect. #IWW #union #TradeUnion #intersectional #AntiFascist #anarchism

     @crashglasshouses That's awful. I have a friend in the States who cited similar shit there too. The "One Big Union" seems to have one big problem.

     @MediaActivist a real piece of shit misogynist who has his finger in more IWW pies than zero.

     in 2016/17, he was secretary of CanROC (Canadian Regional Organising Committee), and edited the Gender Equity Officer's (a non-binary friend who was in the Ottawa branch at the time) notes so that they didn't describe his behaviour in conference calls, and then gaslit the GEO. they (the GEO) went on strike over that and other issues that weren't related.

     the same year, he did something in policy (at convention, i think) that would result in less safety for trans people. memory is fuzzy about this part, i only remember that what he did upset a lot of people, who ended up leaving convention. in general, just a fucking terrible dude who has more than zero visibility in the union and no one does anything about him. he has his gremlins in tow always too, of course.

     he is now in some other position that should hold no power but does if you intend to misuse it.

     @MediaActivist If it helps, I'm trying to ensure it doesn't infect my Unite branch either. I think being an NB secretary for the past eight years or so has meant that members are reasonably often interacting with a queer person but it's always in the form of "right, are your details correct? Are we ready for a strike? Which building are we organising in this month?" so it's inoculating them from the worst of stuff.

     Plus using OT101 vibes on my reps has built our numbers massively!
