That is seriously concise, are people trying to code-golf licences?

And it's always better to use proven/boring licences.

@a1ba @lyyn i'm curious in what way. i checked this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian_Free_Software_Guidelines and the OSL doesn't violate any of those things? its even osi approved

its just the agpl with less words, and moves the distribution trigger to a more clear 'this was used for non internal purposes'

        Debian Free Software Guidelines
The Debian Free Software Guidelines (DFSG) is a set of guidelines that the Debian Project uses to determine whether a software license is a free software license, which in turn is used to determine whether a piece of software can be included in Debian. The DFSG is part of the Debian Social Contract. The guidelines Free redistribution. Inclusion of source code. Allowing for modifications and derived works. Integrity of the author's source code (as a compromise). No discrimination against persons or groups. No discrimination against fields of endeavor, like commercial use. The license needs to apply to all to whom the program is redistributed. License must not be specific to a product. License must not restrict other software. The GNU GPL, BSD, and Artistic licenses are examples of licenses considered free. History The DFSG was first published together with the first version of the Debian Social Contract in July 1997. The primary author was Bruce Perens, with input from the Debian developers...

@icedquinn @a1ba I now want to check too. GPL incompatibility is also unfortunate, but I guess unavoidable.

@lyyn @a1ba i think you actually need to have a conflicting restriction. if a license is more permissive, it can always be treated less permissively. but you have to take the most restrictive interpretation of all the licenses combined.

@icedquinn @a1ba GPL incompatibility is easy. Just be not GPL and be copyleft simple as.

@lyyn @a1ba yeah they're just bickering over wording there. i don't think there is any legal relevance in a sane court.

unless you have some bongo judge all you have to do is show that both agreements are doing the same thing, you are complying with both, sans what amounts to a technicality that the names of the documents aren't the same.

courts can/do declare contracts close enough

        License compatibility
License compatibility is a legal framework that allows for pieces of software with different software licenses to be distributed together. The need for such a framework arises because the different licenses can contain contradictory requirements, rendering it impossible to legally combine source code from separately-licensed software in order to create and publish a new program. Proprietary licenses are generally program-specific and incompatible; authors must negotiate to combine code. Copyleft licenses are commonly deliberately incompatible with proprietary licenses, in order to prevent copyleft software from being re-licensed under a proprietary license, turning it into proprietary software. Many copyleft licenses explicitly allow relicensing under some other copyleft licenses. Permissive licenses are (with minor exceptions) compatible with everything, including proprietary licenses; there is thus no guarantee that all derived works will remain under a permissive license. Definitions License compatibility can be defined around the concepts of "collective/combined/aggregated work" and "derivative...
