    Hell of a thing, what “pro life” looks like.

      The Year After a Denied #Abortion == #Tennessee law prohibits women from having abortions in nearly all circumstances. But once the babies are here, the state provides little help. We followed one #family as they struggled to make it. https://projects.propublica.org/the-year-after-a-denied-abortion/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=mastodon&utm_campaign=mastodon-post

      Among the many, many things I notice with horror reading this story:

      This mother has the legal system riding her back because she left a baby in the car while she went into a vape shop — which was definitely not an awesome thing to do, but the legal system caused •orders of magnitude• more harm to that same baby with what it put the mom through trying to punish her.

      Like…what was the point? [←RHETORICAL QUESTION that does NOT need to be answered in the replies; I know you know]

      @inthehands That story is just heartbreaking.

      Tennessee's version of conservative Christian sharia is somehow even worse than The Handmaid's Tale. At least in Gilead the state was responsible enough to take care of the children.

      @jonathanpeterson
      Yeah. I hesitate to call it “sharia” for many reasons, one of which is that Islam is rarely this cruel either.
