Fundamentally it is a question of ease of access. If my posts live here on this little queer AF server and somebody has to create an account to scrape them in order to do some harmful predictive modeling of my political views, that is a much bigger barrier to fucking with me than if they automatically show up on Bluesky and get fed into a fascist-run LLM directly accessed by hate groups.

So targeting them for unfair use of data, even if it is public, can be an effective use of personal energy. Repurposing your data in private is not an issue. But repurposing it *en masse* in public view makes it a target for criticism.
