iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Sunday, 11-Feb-2024 13:01:58 JST iced depresso the lack of a wrist rest is a little woozy. though still need to try the tenting kit and see if that helps a little. maybe this is why people use those extreme risers where the keyboard is lifted straight upwards and you're typing on it like the sides of a pineapple -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Sunday, 11-Feb-2024 13:23:18 JST iced depresso @Vo ergodox and kinesis have all the keys, they're just chungus keyboards. i got this one because it affords me space for the trackball, on a lap desk, in the room where i tend to sit. but the sofle is one of the larger of the smaller splits, so i only have to resort to meta shifting to get at the square brackets and arrow key type stuff.
i did this retyping penance once for the kinesis and it was painful but only took a couple days of hard labor. and i did that while typing through severe RSI pain since the key wells were good enough to do that for me.
although if i ever do build that datahand i will have to do all this shit again lol. i still want to build one though. they are a crazy love or hate type machine. -

Vo (vo@noauthority.social)'s status on Sunday, 11-Feb-2024 13:23:19 JST Vo @icedquinn my problem with ergo-split keyboards (based on the whole 1 I've tried) is that you're basically menu-diving every time you need a [ or a ; or a Home/End...
Which, when coding, is all the damn time.
Sadly found that my motivation to retune muscle memory is less than my motivation to plug the old TKL back in.
I'm guessing there is are many layouts that I would end up loving more than standard TKL, but pretty sure I lack the beans for the effort involved in getting there.

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Sunday, 11-Feb-2024 15:19:58 JST iced depresso @Vo i type my usual 90wpm on the kinesis. but that, like the ergodox, has a full key set. the ultra micro nonsense requires a lot of deliberate practice learning your chords and shit. -

Vo (vo@noauthority.social)'s status on Sunday, 11-Feb-2024 15:19:59 JST Vo @icedquinn I got to about 60 wpm out of my usual 95+, but anything with symbols and it dropped to like 5 heh
I think it might still work for a studio kb, where space can be limited and you don't need to do a whole lot more than name files and tracks etc
