   I wish we could even consider the frame of respect for elders, and an expectation that elders can act in a way deserving of that respect.

   What if the conversation were less "can you still bench 300" to "are you a venerable elder who can trust the young and judge with wisdom"?

     @ntnsndr it's the second part i struggle with. happy to respect elders that deserve it, but my life has been full of folks who expected respect simply because they were older than me.
