But maybe we should give them a name that doesn't legitimize them.

"In the absence of evidence for X, I will act as if X does not exist" is actually the default mode for most people, most of the time.

It might be a fun (is it?) intellectual exercise to speculate about undetected Xes... but it isn't a particularly solid foundation for life.
