     at work sometimes i wonder which one is worse for my mental health, ms excel or ms outlook

     Evolution is a good replacement for outlook (it does everything outlook does better, except for the "being easily exploited" part).
     
     Libreoffice calc can also replace excel just fine in most situations, the only proprietary problem is proprietary macro support (but you don't want to be running those anyway).

     @jing It's better to beg for forgiveness rather than ask for permission - after all, what they don't know doesn't hurt their feelings.
     
     Very nice free software mirror btw, the only drawback is the proprietary distros.
