tayledras (tayledras@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 02-Feb-2024 16:43:32 JST tayledras BDUs (Battle Dress Uniform) were what the US Air Force called "Cammies" (Camo) for others.
Honestly, I loved my BDUs in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I served in Air Combat Command (ACC) and First Fighter Wing (1FW, tailsign FF) from 1992 to 1996.
And Desert Jump Boots are still far better than any Doc Martins you'll find.

tayledras (tayledras@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 02-Feb-2024 22:06:53 JST tayledras I was a 3C052 (Communications Computer Systems Programmer/Analyst) with a TS/SCI/Poly clearance.
I supported SCIFs (Secure Compartmentalized Information Facilities) and Secure Datacenters that managed the air traffic, traffic control, and routing of F-16, A-10 Warthogs, and Boeing AH-64 Apache Gunships.
I joked that if I were ever attacked, I could swing a mean mouse and I was certified on the 9mm sidearm and M16A1 assault rifle.

tayledras (tayledras@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Feb-2024 02:09:36 JST tayledras I would have made a career out of it if I were stationed anywhere else but ACC (Air Combat Command) HQ.
Working directly for a Command means saluting every shiny object that walks past you every ten minutes. The job is as political as it is difficult. You need to be confident, you need to be courteous, you need to be competent.
Pilots work hard and play hard, so some of the shit on Mastodon wouldn't fly and some of the stuff that happens would make SJWs unhappy.

tayledras (tayledras@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Feb-2024 02:09:36 JST tayledras I got out and made more than double what I made in the USAF working for CSC (Computer Science Corporation).
I kept my clearance and went on to work for the DoD (Department of Defense), DoE (Department of Energy), USEPA, NOAA, AOUSC, and Comcast.
I also worked for several agencies.
AFOSI, NRO, and NOAA were the most interesting and most fun work I've done over my 30+ year career.
I supported the GOES-18 NOAA and Himawari Japan satellites.
