     Alas, tables can’t do the thing I want either. Floating divs can get close, but no potato. AFAICT, it requires DOM manipulation with JS.

     @inthehands @mattly I am nearly always frustrated with CSS when trying to do a two column layout, and almost always fall back to a TABLE because I am caveman designer. Perhaps @Meyerweb has some wisdom to share?

     For the record, the very reasonable thing I’m trying to do is to have the layout on in image 1 responsively turn into the layout in image 2 when the screen is wide enough. This is, AFAICT, completely impossible without either doing JS DOM manipulation or just duplicating all the markup. If anybody knows a way to do this without heinous trickery, please feel free to wow me in the replies.
